What has Wallace Carothers got to do with our carpets?

Silk Luxury Carpet Spaceman
Well not specifically our carpets, but rather the development of the material that makes up our Faux Silk carpet collections.

Wallace was a chemist/inventor. He was working in super polymers at Du Pont, experimenting rather than with any real practical objective in mind. However, in 1935 his team created polyamide 6-6, the substance that would come to be known as Nylon.

Nylon was first used in toothbrush bristles but then more famously in women's stockings or "nylons". Eventually, due to its versatility, nylon became widely used across a range of products - including the American Flag they placed on the moon.

In the 1950s nylon started to be used in carpets due to its resilience. As well as our 100% New Zealand wool carpets, we use the superior 6.6 nylon in our carpets.

But what does this mean for you?

Exceptional durability. Our carpets are resistant to wear and tear, making it perfect for high-traffic areas and homes with pets or children. It also means our carpets retain their appearance and structural integrity for years, even under heavy use.

Stain Resistance. Our faux silk carpets repel stains, spills, and dirt effectively. Making maintenance and cleaning a breeze.
Fade Resistance. Our carpets are highly resistant to fading, even when exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods. This ensures that when you recommend our carpets, they will maintain their vibrant colours and look over time, making them a great investment.

Softness and Comfort. If you are looking for a luxurious feel underfoot, our silk effect carpets provide excellent cushioning and comfort.

Versatility. Silk effect carpets are easier to dye and we have 80 colours in our collections, offering you endless design possibilities to suit any interior scheme.

Environmentally Friendly. 6.6 nylon can be recycled through a mechanical process where the nylon fibres can be used to create new carpets or other high-quality products. This helps to keep nylon out of landfills and reduces the need to extract new resources from the environment.

Although he may not known it at the time, Wallace's development ensures that when you choose our silk effect carpets you'll be assured of lasting beauty and performance.
